Basic Information

1) Birding
Best Season - January to Feb.

Best Places for Birding
Ranking No 1 : There is a nature camp in between Mukkali and Sairandhri that can accommodate 20 people. Birding camps are organised for large groups, typically educational tours . This is not an option for general public or individual birders

Ranking No 2: Karuvara Trekking. The Trek runs through a coffee plantation and along a stream and excellent for birding. I've been there in January and was astonished by the wide varieties of birds.

Ranking No 3: Trek from Sairandhri Watch tower to Kunthi River also offers very good opportunities for birding

2) Accomodation Options

Ranking No 1: Keerippara Camp Shed. Good views, Nice trek and the only place that offers any possibility of animal sighting

Ranking No 2: Boomiyampathy, Though i've not been there personally guess this should score above the other options in mukkali

Other Options: River Hut (close to the IB and on the banks of Amaravathi) and Dormitory available in Mukkali

There are cheaper accommodations available in Mannarkkad, which is just 19 kms away and well connected to Mukkali.

3) Silent Valley Trekking Options

Ranking No 1: The jeep trip to  Sairandhri, Trek from the Watch Tower to Kunthi River is the best and a must for every visitor

Ranking No 2: Keerippara Trek. A decent trek with good view and sighting possibilities

Ranking No 3: Karuvara Falls. A very pleasant trek inside the plantation  and a decent falls. At the moment not being offered as there is no water in the stream(that's the official reason)

Tips:
1) It is better to book even your trekking and Jeep rides in Advance. Avoid week ends if possible
2) The Sairandhri trip takes about 5 hours. So the last jeep is allowed only till 1 and one has to leave Sairandhri by 4
3) Please carry food if you are on a day trip, the options available at Mukkali are bad
4) The trekking options on website might not be available always, so call before you go.
5) The Eco Shop sells good forest produce at reasonable price
